The SECOND FACULTY OF MEDICINE, CHARLES UNIVERSITY offers programs that include General Medicine which is a six-year program that leads to Master’s degree MUDr. (Doctor of General Medicine). The second one is the Dentistry program with a five-year duration that leads to the Master’s degree MDDr. (Doctor of Dental Medicine). The university provides the students with state-of-the-art technology and facilities and the very notable point is that both programs last for 5 or 6 years and they are not divided into Bachelor’s and Master’s studies; the entire curriculum lasts 5 or 6 years.

The faculty provides the students with research-based programs in a wide range of medical fields in order to give them the opportunity to explore and become updated with medical advancements and treatments. The General Medicine course provides a six-year full-time course that is divided into Theoretical and Preclinical Teaching and Clinical Teaching years.

To elaborate more, Theoretical and Preclinical Teaching starts from the very first year for 3 years, during which the students will learn several practical skills and meet patients. In these three years, students will learn about various fields such as Cell, Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Biology, Physiology and Biochemistry, Pathology, Pathophysiology, Microbiology and Immunology, etc.

 The last three years of study will focus on preparing the students for clinical practices. The clinical teaching years are scheduled as a case-based program in which students will work as an intern in all the clinical disciplines. In the sixth year, students will finish their studies with Advanced Master’s state examinations in Public Health, Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Pediatrics and after that as a graduate, they are able to use their degree ‘Doctor of General Medicine’ which is recognized in EU and US.

Ph.D. Programs of The SECOND FACULTY OF MEDICINE, CHARLES UNIVERSITY

To study for the highest level of education in the Czech Republic the Second Faculty of Medicine offers 16 doctoral study programs full-time in Czech and English. These programs are conducted for both graduates of a master’s degree in medicine or related orientations and graduates of engineering-type studies.

 The programs are based on scientific research which follows an Individual Study Plan (ISP) under the guidance of a supervisor and when it is fully completed by the State Doctoral Examination (SDE), students must defend their dissertation and they will be awarded the Ph.D.  degree. Furthermore, the duration of the study is minimum four years and maximum eight years.

University Application Process

To apply this university students are required to have completed their education from any part of the world. The admission process includes an entrance exam which is conducted at the university or by its official representatives. First, applicants take a written multiple-choice test in Biology, Physics, and Chemistry and have 90 minutes to answer the questions. Second, the best ones in the test results would be invited for the second test which is an interview.

To perform well in this interview high proficiency in English is required. Interviewers will ask a wide range of questions in which students should demonstrate their interest in the field they choose to study and defend their ideas and prove that they have had a good performance in high school specifically in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
